Vitex is a great small hardy tree that has a stunning late bloom of large spikes of purple flowers that are an important nectar source. Long known for its late season honey production it has been planted extensively for this purpose. Also the seeds are used as a medicine for female reproductive psoblems. The tree is also very tough and hardy being useful as a landscaping plant with its attractive foliage and flowers. The wood is very hard and can be used for tool handles and other uses.AS it flowers on the new years growth it can be cut back every year and sstill produce flowers and fruits to harvest.
