A beautiful tough native evergreen shrub growing widely throughout much of California and down into Baja California it is also known as Christmasberry due to its showy red clusters of berries that last deep into winter. Berries are an important winter food for birds, and the nutritious evergreen leaves are relished by browsing herbivores. Attactive in all seasons it is one of our favorite native shrubs or small trees. Generally grows 6 to 8 feet tall and wide, but in favorable conditions can make a solid 15 foot tall specimen.
