Also known as Chinese quince, Perfume quince (Cydonia oblonga) is botanically different from our other quince varieties. Native to areas of Armenia, Turkey, Georgia, Iran and Afghanistan. It is prized ornamentally for its pretty pink flowers in spring, soft foliage with bright fall color, and its beautiful peeling bark. The huge fruit is good cooked in sauces and other quince uses, and is highly fragrant. One quince placed on a table will perfume the whole room. Best propagated by grafting as cuttings are hard to root. Hardy zones 5-9.
