San Pedro Cactus (Echinopsis pachanoi (syn. Trichocereus pachanoi)

San Pedro are native to the Andes mountains of South America, growing in Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Argentina and Chile. Also widely planted in other countries. In Oaxaca Mexico they are commonly planted close together to make an impenetrable fence. Fast growing and upright, they are very attractive in the landscape and easy to grow. Amazing when in bloom, with their night opening large white flowers filling the air with their fragrance, attracting large nocturnal moths. Regularly grows 20 feet tall, with the record set at about 40'.

Traditionally used in Medicine for humans as well as livestock for over 3,000 years. it is also been used as a divination plant in the local traditional cultures. Due to its native cool moist environment it can take more cold and wet than most cactus. Needs well drained soil and is hardy zones 8b-10.

Propagated from cuttings. We send a calloused approx. 3" long section of stem that should be laid on its side in well drained potting soil to root. Once established it can be planted out, with the original cut piece of stem buried  just underground so that the new shoots will be able to root too.
