Black Cottonwood grows throughout the western states, mainly along waterways and other moist areas. Very fast growing large tree, it is one of the favorite food of beavers and puts on an amazing golden fall color. Wood is used as lumber and the buds are highly valued by both human herbalists and bees for the propolis that coats them. Best not to plant near buildings as they can occasionally shed limbs as the age.
